Stage 2 - Cross Country

Requirements

The competencies in Stage 2 are more knowledge-based than stage 1. They build on the Stage 1 skills. Therefore, you must be proficient in all Stage 1 competencies before being able to successfully complete the Stage 2 skills. The Stage 2 competencies are as follows:

  1. Demonstrate maintained proficiency of all Stage 1 Competencies

  2. Navigation, including:

    1. Plotting and planning cross-country flights

    2. Pilotage

    3. Dead reckoning

  3. Aircraft Performance

  4. Weather, including:

    1.  Weather sources (METARs, TAFs, MOS, Area Forecast)

    2. Obtaining a weather briefing from 1-800-WXBRIEF (outlook, standard, and abbreviated)

    3. Weather theory

  5. Airspace​

  6. Radio Communications
